Trezo Mare is one of those restaurants that I desperately want to like but that never seems to live up to my expectations. With a convenient Briarcliff location, a classy/comfy bar area, one of the best patios in Kansas City, and a menu full of wood-oven selections, it sounds (on paper at least) like it would be one of my favorite restaurants in town. But unfortunately that's not been my experience. I originally started going to Trezo Mare as a happy hour spot. In addition to a great ambiance, they offered a nice menu of reasonably-priced appetizers and small plates to go along with some decent drink specials. But that has since changed, and now it seems like what you get at happy hour prices here you could find at regular menu price elsewhere. Another complaint I have about the happy hour menu is that they don't have a huge selection of draft beers, only a few of which are on special, and the only cocktails that are discounted during happy hour are those that are really sweet and fruity. Wine specials, too, are limited to the red & white wine of the day. The food at Trezo Mare is also nothing to write home about. My wife and I have dined here on several occasions, for both brunch and dinner, and we've tried several different entrees on these visits. However, none of these meals were even remotely memorable. Pretty bland, in fact. And overpriced. Will I go back in the future? Probably... just because it's convenient and I love the patio. But it will most likely only be for a quick bite and some drinks during happy hour.

Ahhhh, come for the Happy Hour, or come for dinner...you simply can't go wrong! Happy Hour at Trezo is usually filled with a good amount of people - typically an older crowd, but some youngins mixed in as well. HH is good for the drinks, but if you want something to fill you up, food wise, I'd suggest just having dinner in the dining room. I glanced at the menu and saw they offered a Braised Short Rib which immediately sealed the deal. Then, I saw it was served with horseradish mashed potatoes and I was practically salivating. Good lord, that dish was amazing. The horseradish in the mashed potatoes was a perfect dose - not too much, but enough to know it's there. I will definitely come back again to have another go 'round with that dish. Service: I was having dinner with a former flame, which turned out to be a mistake. Not only did he ask 471,854 questions about every dang dish on the menu including which sauces he does and doesn't like (he's lost 35 pounds this year, you know) and basically being an overall condescending a**, our server was a saint who patiently explained the menu items until my dinner companion was satisfied. (This former flame also talked all the way through Beyonce's "Partition" on the ride home. How disrespectful. I can't even.) So, even if you end up having dinner with someone who makes you want to pluck your own hair out, with tweezers - the quality of the food at Trezo Mare will make up for it. I think.

I have to say the fact that I was even at an Italian restaurant and considering eating is a big deal. I miss Italian food. I can't have tomatoes, dairy, or gluten. So really, what is the point of going to a restaurant that specializes in said food? However, because I needed to investigate a gluten-free menu, I entered with the idea that I may just have a drink and a salad. I was very surprised to learn that not only do they have a true gluten-free menu. But they make their own gluten-free pasta. The gluten-free menu is quite extensive in my opinion (at least for Kansas City). And especially for this type of cuisine. I went to this "Italian-influenced" restaurant with a mostly full stomach because this was not planned, and my only intention was to check out the menu for research purposes. But our server was so convincing, delightful, and passionate about the menu, that I ended up ordering food. I plan go to back in the future and actually try this gluten-free pasta. Our server, who does not normally eat gluten-free was raving about it (and the gluten-free flourless dessert). AND DID I MENTION THEY BROUGHT OUT GLUTEN-FREE BREAD?!?! That was a complete surprise, and very much appreciated. Their drink menu is very appealing, including wine. They have a lovely lounge area, and outside seating for nicer weather. The dining area is very nice. I felt cozy and taken care of the entire time we were there. I think it would be a great date spot. But it also fits the bill for a happy hour in the lounge, or on the patio. They also serve brunch on Saturday & Sunday. They had some good deals for happy hour at the bar, too (food and drink options). They do happy hour Monday-Saturday, and I believe a reverse happy hour from 9-close as well. Overall, we had a very lovely experience, and will definitely go back. Our service was top notch, and our food was delicious. My dining companion polished off his fettuccini alfredo, along with the pork shoulder & swiss chard that I was sampling. From a non gluten-free perspective the menu is even more extensive. I did not feel limited at all. But if I could actually EAT gluten, dairy, and nightshades I cannot even imagine how stuffed I would be. I feel like anyone with an appetite would be more than thrilled to order from the menu. There were even maybe five salads, soup, and a good choice of sides for someone who might be either on a budget, or not as hungry.

The fried panko calamari was amazing with grated parmesan! The Chicken Piccata was one of the best chicken dish I've tasted. The white wine lemon sauce with caper was a perfect balance that made the chicken perfectly moist and tender. I'm not a huge fan of capers but the dish was so good that I cleaned the plate. The other dish we ordered was Wood - Fired Salmon with gnocchi. The dish was fairly good but i think we don't care for the gnocchi like most people. Their bread tasted very fresh and light, the whipped butter just made it oh so amazing! Both desserts Trezo Chocolate Bar and Pistachio Panna Cotta was a perfect ending to a Sunday afternoon. I'm leaving happy and satisfied! Thank you Trezo Mare for a great dinner and our wonderful waitress, Jessica D. for a great service. We will be back soon!!!

A very solid happy hour from 3-6 and all night on Mondays. Domestic Draft - $2.75 Boulevard Draft - $3 Boulevard Tank 7 - $4 We came here because they have a GIANT patio. Unfortunately there isn't anything to block the wind, so it was way windy, but after a winter like this it felt good to be outside anyway. We had a large group (12?) so the service was a bit slow, but I think it was only because they weren't accounting for having people sitting outside since it was so windy. I didn't eat anything myself, but was kicking myself for not getting the fish tacos which got rave reviews from others at the table. Great patio with great views of the area. I'll be back for Happy Hour again!

Decent place for lunch. Pizza wasn't bad but nothing really memorable. Probably not a bad place to take a date. The ambiance and service far exceeded the food.

What's up with the hate for this place. Yah it's expensive, what did you think was going to happen when you came to BriarCliff west? out of all the 1 star reviews I think Erin's was the only valid one. The rest of you need have a bigger stick up there than the people running this place. I love this description, "food leaves something to be desired" really did you even try an entree or just drink at the bar and eat the stale piece of pizza you hid in your pocket? Trezo Mare has delivered anytime I've eaten here (which is lots.) One Valentines day (might have been mothers day who knows) I was across the parking lot trying to get into another eatery and couldn't. I thought no way Trezo will have a table.. but they did and rocked it for me. The drinks from the bar are top notch and sometimes I just order small plates instead of an entree because I can't decide what I want. It's all so good.

Iv never been a huge fan of this place only because of how inconsistent the food and service is.... My boyfriend and I went tonight simply because it was beautiful out and trezo has literally the best patio north of the river. I was blown away for the first time, not by the food but by the service. Tony S was such a fun person who was legitimately enjoying his night on the job . The food was fine, but it was Tonys genuine personality and seem less service that prompted me to finally write a review. Thanks for making a random Thursday night out something special :)

The atmosphere and superb outdoor patio are the saving grace of Trezo Mare. Nothing that my party of 4 ordered was bad, but nothing was excellent either. The food was simply mediocre and forgettable. The wait staff was friendly but inefficient, and all three courses of our meal were adequate at best. If you want to get drinks in a nice atmosphere then Trezo Mare might be the place for you, but I would recommend sticking with drinks and eating somewhere else.

I came here during restaurant week with four others. We had a reservation at 7pm so our table was ready for us when we got there. The parking lot was big so don't worry about parking. The interior was dark but I guess that was fine. There was a bar area as well but I didn't look to see how big it was. I noticed that the restaurant week menu was the same price as the regular menu for a starter, entree, and dessert. I don't know why that was the case or maybe it was the combination of starter, entree, and dessert I chose that happened to be the same as the normal price. I'll use the normal menu's name of the things I ordered since everything I ordered from the restaurant week menu was also on their normal menu. I ordered the Empanadas ($9), the Buttermilk Chicken ($18), and Tiramisu ($6). We all tried to order different dishes but still had a couple overlap which was fine. The free bread was nothing special in my opinion and our waiter didn't give us more until someone else came and gave us different kind of bread with fresh Parmesan. Our starters came out at the same time and I thought the Empanadas were good but thought the $9 price was a little high. It was too bad it only had two along with some vegetables and two sauces. I tried some Crab & Shrimp Cakes ($13) and it wasn't bad in my opinion. I definitely tasted the crab more than the shrimp. Next, the entrees came out. The Buttermilk Chicken was delicious and complemented the risotto that was below it. Finally, the dessert was the last thing that came out. I thought the Tiramisu was not bad but might be a little much for some who don't like a lot of sweets. The cocoa powder on top could easily make you start choking if it went down the wrong pipe so be careful. The Trezo Chocolate Bars ($6) was good and had a good combination of textures (if you will) which made it enjoyable to me. The Cheesecake ($7) was nothing special in my opinion and a little boring as a dessert regardless if there was fruit on top of it. Out of the three desserts I tried, I would recommend the Trezo Chocolate Bars. Good place for dinner but might be pricey for some.

Wow; what a place! My boyfriend and I made reservations here over the weekend for our anniversary- the staff was very welcoming, the restaurant was beautiful, romantic, and cozy, and our server was fantastic. Great drinks and delicious appetizers. They even printed, "Trezo Mare would like to wish Austin and Ali a happy anniversary" inside of our menus! They just made our night feel so special. I really wish I could give Trezo Mare a full five stars just based on our experience... Because our entrees were a bit disappointing. I ordered the shrimp fettuccini Alfredo. The shrimp was perfect- the pasta, on the other hand, I was not impressed with. The Alfredo tasted watered down. I didn't even finish it. My boyfriend ordered the lobster Mac and cheese, which was an even worse letdown than mine. Once again, the pasta was not the least bit memorable, and the lobster was chewy. I'm sure the manager would have tried to fix it but we're not much for complaining. I would love to come back to Trezo Mare- I'm sure the steaks and pizzas and seafood are probably what keep people coming. We haven't given up on them yet. :)

B+ We were supposed go to Le Fou Frog for dinner with another couple. The couple called and said they'd be late. They called again to say they were going to be even later. The third call came, as we were into round three of cocktails and escargot at the Frog- could we meet them at Trezo Mare instead. It was close to their house and. they. had. a. WINE. LOCKER.! We reluctantly agreed to do so. And I am glad we did. First off, one is a bit taken aback by how nice the interior at Trezo Mare is. Very woody with fireplaces. A great u-shaped bar. Friendly bar-tender. The place wasn't busy but we decided to have drinks at the bar first. Once we were sat our booth (huge u-shape leather booths with long tall back) we ordered a bottle from our friends wine locker and ordered calamari as an appateazer. The calamari here is good and it is of ample proportions. My friend Lee and I ordered the filet with Yukon gold mashers and green beans. They filets were perfectly cooked. Kayla had the buccotini and it looked wonderful. She was happy with her decision. My wife, Jocelyn, ordered the steak wedge salad and she said really good. The service here is perfectly professional and I can't wait to go back. Parking is ample. The location is right across the river from downtown in Briarcliffe Village. They have a huge wine selection and the restaurant is good for everything from a big famliy dinner, an important business meeting or a romantic night on the town.

Went there twice, food just ok, better than Olive Garden but not a upper tier place. Piccata too heavy with broth and no lemon taste, crab stuffed trout should be called "crab sprinkled" trout and creme brûlée disappointing.

Restaurant Week 2015: First time to Trezo Mare and had a decent time. Atmosphere is unique, low to average noise, and appeared to be family friendly which I thought was odd considering the menu prices. I'm not to sure if I would call Trezo Mare an Italian place, but I can't seem to describe it otherwise. We ordered the Lobster bisque, Seasonal salad, Wood-fired salmon, Pork chop, Tiramisu, and Pistachio panna cotta. I thoroughly enjoyed the seasonal salad which was unique and exciting. The salmon was excellent and the pork chop was a very generous portion, but neither anything spectacular. The main highlight of the meal were the desserts. The tiramisu is the best I've had in KC and trumps another place here and the Pistachio panna cotta was light and refreshing. As much as I enjoyed their desserts, I didn't find Trezo Mare very note worthy so I wouldn't say I have an urge to return soon even with the free appetizer card. If I had to guess the cost based on the food we had, I wouldn't have thought they would be as high as listed on their regular menu prices.

The first two times, I loved the atmosphere and the menu. The food was very good but the third time we went....... The service was horrible. I was charged for items I didn't order and when I pointed it out the, waitress told me that's actually what she brought me. But AGAIN....it wasn't what I ordered nor did I eat it. Since it was a business lunch, I smiled, paid the bill and won't be back. Just to be clear...when the food came, I told her I didn't order it and she said it was OK and left the food. We didn't touch it and I wasn't going to try to correct it in front of business professionals. Yikes!

A friend's husband made reservations for his wife on her birthday. We we got there they handed us a special menu that said Happy Birthday Laura, very personal touch. Our waiter was amazing, altough I have forgotten his name. The food was also amazing. I will differently go back.

Hey downtowners, don't be scared. It may technically be north of the river, but Trezo Mare is pretty damn nice! I would highly suggest this place for happy hour on their patio. A gorgeous space full of lawn furniture, fountains and fire features, the patio is beautiful and ought to attract the beautiful people as well. The service has always been good, and they have really good options for both food and drink. The HH hours are kinda crazy, so here goes: Monday 3pm until close! Tues-Fri 3-6pm Saturday 11am-4pm and six nights a week there is revere HH, from 9pm until close. I would assume the night that's not an option would be Saturday, but I'm not clear on that. Drinks run from $2.75 for a domestic draft to specialty cocktails for $6. They have a number of great food options, including a kobe burger with fries and quite possibly the best fish tacos in the city. For serious, they're amazing. If you're feeling just a bit snacky they do have an olive plate or bruschetta. It takes somebody downtown probably 7 minutes to get to Trezo Mare, so it's definitely closer than hitting the Plaza, and maybe even Westport. I'd suggest hitting them up!

Good but expensive for what it is. They seem to use the same grease for everything so the praline bacon with all of its sweet flavor scan taint some of the other foods. Avoid anything fried and you'll be in pretty good shape.

Pretty yummy and all hunks o' meat were cooked to specificity, which is a must, yet sometimes a lot to ask. The decor is pretty...suburban meets ski lodge, but cozy. Very roomy. In fact, the night we went it was pretty much empty, which was odd because while it was later 9 or 9:30, it was still a Saturday night. Nice service and the couple we ate with has a wine locker, which is a great concept and will get you regulars pretty quickly. I don't eat up this way too often, but would certainly revisit when the opportunities presents itself again. For those of you who have a "KC Originals" Rewards Card - they are a member! Great, local place.

We went here for restaurant week. I've always wanted to eat here but never really took the time. Everything was absolutely delicious! I would definitely come back here again. Sorry to say, I don't remember the names of what we had as they were off a special menu and it was a month ago, but I will definitely eat here again and recommend it to family. I also like that they use local farmers for their produce and meat.

So we went during restaurant week. I had the calamari appetizer and the Cuban sandwich. When we walked in the hostess said it would be 20 to 30 minute wait, we were on our lunch break so we couldn't wait. We asked if we could sit at the bar and she looked at us and said if you can go find seats you're more than welcome to. So we walked into the bar and it was completely open so we sat down and the bartender handed us menus. While we were looking the bar filled immediately. About 15 minutes later the bartender made it back around to us and we placed our orders. I explained I had a dairy allergy and asked if the calamari the salmon and/or the Cuban were dairy free. He said the calamari is, the Cuban is if you order it without cheese and salmon he thinks is. I continued to read the description of the salmon and it said cooked in butter! So therefore it is not dairy free. I should have made him go back and ask the chef if it could be made without butter. But he was so busy I didn't bother. I ordered the calamari as an appetizer and it came out covered and Parmesan cheese. The bartender looked at the cheese and looked at me and said you can't eat cheese can you? I said no. He said didn't think so, I'll go have them remake it. All of my friends received their appetizers and we're completely finished by the time my calamari came out. The bartender actually had to go get it. The second time it came out it looked like it had cheese on it again. I said are you sure this doesn't have cheese on it? He said I don't think so. I asked to see the manager? The manager came out and said I doesn't like cheese but I'll ask the chef and took my plate back to the kitchen. She came back out and said the chef guarantees it is not cheese it is large kosher salt. I took the plate back said thank you set it down as she left handed to piece to a friend that said please eat this let me know if it is salt or cheese. He said it is salt actually it's really salty. I ate my calamari by this time it was cold and over salted. At this point you're probably thinking why is she giving this place three stars? When the Cuban sandwich came out it was probably one of the best Cuban sandwiches I've ever had. The pork tasted like it had a dry rub that was extremely flavorful and slow cooked perfectly. It was shredded and served with what looked to be homemade pickles and a honey mustard on a French baguette. There was also a very large side of fries. The bartender apologize profusely for the wait and having to send the calamari back. About halfway through our entrées we realized we had been there over an hour. We ask for our desserts to be put in to go containers so we could take them with us. I ordered the cheesecake to go, so I can give it to my husband later. As soon as we finished our entrées, he brought out our desserts in to go containers. We divvied up the bill, paid and left. Overall we were gone an hour and a half for lunch. I think because it was restaurant week they were just slammed. They should have realized they would be busy and added a few more staff members. There were several empty tables so maybe staff member didn't show up or something else happened but if they had back up staff or extra waiters on hand I'm sure lunch would have gone much smoother. I was a little disappointed they didn't have their seafood soup on the menu, it is my favorite. I will go back and give them another chance, to see if the're faster and better staffed on a regular day.

This was my first time at Trezo Mare and I selected it because I needed a place that had a private room, and they had listed there was a wine cellar. I thought this was perfect place for us to have dinner as we have made a pastime of visiting wineries. Thinking we just needed a more private area for us to have a regular dinner (and there weren't a lot of places with private rooms), we agreed to rent the room after our (extremely) small wedding . From the start, I thought this was a bad idea as I had to put a credit card down for $200 in case we canceled. Mind you, everyone was going to be paying for themselves. I was forced to pick a limited menu...even if we would've sat outside the "cellar" we could have ordered off the entire menu. They required a close estimate of how many people would be there and try to charge you for going under or over. Not only does this bother me that a restaurant would try to charge you for not having people show up, but little did they mention that they also charge if someone comes and doesn't order an entree. We had people order drinks, salad, and even dessert and they wanted to charge me $15 for those people as well. This cellar that they mention, was not a cellar at all. It was only a room that had a glass wall on one side with wine bottles behind it on the main level and not that private. The waitresses were nice, but several people had issues, whether it be ordered a drink and it never came, they took their food back to be boxed and never brought it back, put the wrong items on tickets, and the food wasn't that good either. One of the things that hit me was I specifically asked for the cork of the wine bottle I ordered, but when the waitress took the bottle to "re-cork" it, she put a plastic stopper in it and re-wrapped it, without a cork. Unfortunately, I didn't notice it since it was covered until I got home. It turned what was supposed to be a relaxing celebration into a stressful headache. I kick myself that I didn't go with my first instinct and chose another location.

I took my daughter for lunch today to celebrate her 30th birthday. We sat outside and the atmosphere was fabulous. We decided to split the BLT. Can I say what a mistake it was to split it ! It had just the right amount of bacon, avocado and tomatoes, the perfect balance. (I love bacon and avocado, but some places go so crazy you can hardly get the sammie in your mouth or else its squirting out the back of the sandwich when you take a bite.) Then I have to talk about the farmer tomatoes...THE best tomatoes I have ever eaten. Buttery yellow heirlooms. They weren't dripping, they were meaty and sweet. Add to those a beautiful ailoi for a little garlic tang. This sandwich is fabulous ! I live in Jo Co and would drive up to Briarcliff in a heartbeat to experience this blt again...and I hope its very soon ! Oh, and you have to indulge in the creme brulee' with the caramel corn garnish...to die for.

I wanted to be a Jersey snob and tank this place for its attempt at italian. But... A reasonable and well spaced out wine list complimented the lavender infused spinach salad with candied pecans. The lavender was present without being overwhelming. I finished with a fettuccini Alfredo that was loaded with Veges! Yea! Mushrooms, broccolini and peppers broke up the normally heavy dish. I sincerely appreciated the fresh pasta as soon as it hot my palate. Nothing beats fresh noodles! Criticisms are minimal but the dish definitely needed salt and the Italian bread I had to special order is not even close to a Jersey crusty italian loaf.

Trezo Mare is a place I come back to again and again. I've had nothing but impeccable service here, and the food is great. They pride themselves on being locally owned, with locally-sourced food. It IS a bit pricey (I've never been during HH) but it's a very impressive restaurant if you want to take someone out nice. I've also always sat inside when I've eaten there, so although I've seen the view from the entrance, I've never seen it from the patio itself. From what I've seen it's beautiful, and I want to go when it warms up a bit, and enjoy some time out there.

Interesting mix. Service was excellent. Decor is very nice and good ambience. When we were there on Tuesday they were not very busy at all and we were able to get a good size booth. Lobster bisque was not very good and was very runny or watery and not creamy like a bisque should be. As such it lacked the flavor of a normal bisque. Homemade bread was very good. Macadamia Halibut was superb. Served with brussel sprouts and tomatoes added very nice flavors. Not sure what they did with the cauliflower but they made it inedible to the point I moved it off the plate. Chicken Picatta, one of their specialities, is served in a bowl bigger than your head. The chicken is submerged in something that become gellatin as it absorbs the potatoes underneath it. Gone was the sharp lemon flavor and the capers lose their flavor once soaked in that solution. Not a very good plate at all. Prices are what you would expect for this type of restaurant. Excellent service and a great piece of fish saved this review.

Was a disappointment in looking at the other reviews. The chips for the artichoke dip were stale and has to send it back for new ones. Ordered the lobster Mac and cheese, had very few bites of lobster and noodles were not cooked all the way. Apparently they serve bread but waitress said you have to ask for it at lunch time. Guess Sunday afternoon was not a good time to go. Next time I'm in town I will not be back.

I just moved back to KC from San Diego a couple of months ago and we passed Briarcliff Village on one of our day trips. Last Saturday I made the trek back up there to go to Nell Hill and stopped in to have lunch at Trezo Mare. 1. It's a beautiful restaurant. Very sexy. 2. The services was very good. 3. And most importantly - I had the best salad I've EVER had in my life!! I had the Boulevard Chicken Salad. The chicken had the lightest beer batter I've ever tasted. There were artichokes that had a homemade marinade; the cheese and salad dressing were just right. The flavors married perfectly. With every bite I kept thinking, OMG this is sooooo good! I will DEFINITELY be going back to this restaurant. It's worth the drive!!

Okay so very very rarely am I blown away by food. I'm not a picky eater, but I guess you could definitely call me a food snob. Well I was blown the eff away by Trezo Mare tonight. Everything was freaking amazing. Like, the only way I could describe my experience is to say that my mouth orgasmed. Sorry may be a bad visual...but it's the best I can do. Like, taste explosion. The restaurant itself is nice...it's huge which I'm honestly not crazy about. I'm more of a fan of the smaller venues (ie Farmhouse). But it's a cozy atmosphere nonetheless. We were sat right at our reservation time, and had only been at our table for sixty seconds before our waiter arrived. He was super attentive and friendly. We ordered the crab fondue (omg), the tomato basil soup (OMG) and the scallop fettuccine with asparagus and prosciutto (holy mother of God). Their pasta is home made daily, and it shows. The scallops were juicy and tender... You get the idea. It was an awesome awesome meal. I'd actually write more, but I'm getting ready to eat my leftovers. Yay. Ill obviously be going here again. And soon.

In Five Words.... Value, Tasty, Service, Standard, Contrived? Trezo Mare has found a place in my happy hour rotation as of late. The food is tasty, the prices are GREAT, and the atmosphere is pretty cool. Please note that I have ONLY been here for happy hour, never for dinner. Every time I have visited Briarcliff I've always left satisfied with the overall value that I get from Trezo. The happy hour is legit. $5 dollar hefty red or white wine pours with a plethora of food options. We typically get the olive bowl for like... 4 bucks... and the calamari for 5.5. We have also had the lettuce wraps and the spinach artichoke dip, both of which are tasty. I will have to say that I really do enjoy the fish tacos. The servers are always nice and prompt and overall it's a nice experience. We have yet to enjoy the deck but it is HUGE! The negative for me is that Trezo seems a bit to contrived. Absurd I know. I guess they are going for Italian Villa upscale olive garden? I mean don't get me wrong, I do like this place, and it is a KC original. I'll probably go again next week. Trezo for me just does not have much genuine charm that comes with a place like Garrazos or Casscones. Perhaps if we give it time? What drives home Trezo for me is the VALUE during happy hour. It's a really nice environment in the bar area with great deals on tasty treats. HAPPY HOUR destination for sure.

Very very friendly & super good. Went there looking for seafood & got it! My husband got the steak & loved it! We loved the food & the atmosphere so much that we bought a gift card for my parents for Christmas & they came away very happy & we will all be returning very soon.

The food was wonderful! Love the atmosphere and decor. It's cozy and not too dimly lit you can't see like with some other places. My date and I had the Gnocchi for apps and Chicken Piccata and the Buttermilk Chicken for dinner. Never have I tasted such moist and juicy chicken. Then for dessert we split a tiramisu. I will definitely be returning when I'm up in the Northland.

Girls Night Out meant a long dinner for 4 at Trezo Mare in Briarcliff Shops this last Saturday night. It was a great experience with only a few minor glitches. Glitch number one, we didn't get a booth. The hostess said all their booths were spoken for but we saw many left open (including a perfect corner booth) all evening. It would have been much more comfy and private than the table. Ordering was difficult because everything sounded wonderful! The table ordered two appetizers. The chicken artichoke dip and fried calamari. The dip was pureed. Ew. It lacked in flavor which we remedied with salt, but it was still strange. I was hungry so I did eat some, but I wouldn't order it again. The calamari was the app hit of the table. It looked like mozzarella sticks and came with a light marinara. How you get a calamari into a 4 inch long rectangle I don't even want to know. I've only had fried calamari twice and my first experience was much better, but the rest of the table LOVED it. One friend and I ordered the crab bisque with our entree. I cannot pass up crab bisque when I see it offered. Pierpont's has ruined me for all other crab bisque! I didn't like it at all! One friend said, "It's not warm enough." Another sampled it and said,"Good but a little salty." I must say that after 8 sips I just couldn't handle the salt anymore. It was overwhelming and a real disappointment. That was glitch number 2. I ordered the chicken fettucini with smoked tomato cream sauce, bacon, and spinach for my entree. It was really great. I didn't see any bacon and the spinach was stirred in uncooked and hadn't wilted either...hmm, glitch. The sauce was so good! We tasted each others entrees and they were all yummy. Chicken Saltimbocca was my favorite. The chicken was super tender and the warm smell of sage and cream took us all to our happiest Thanksgiving memories. The Wood-Fired Chicken came with a fabulous red pepper buerre blanc and gorgeous asparagus. The grilled flavor paired with the sauce was great. Shrimp Diavlo came with fusili a.k.a. rotini or cork screw pasta. The pasta was cooked al dente and the sauce wasn't too spicy. Since we were in the party mood we ordered desserts. I ordered the cheesecake with chocolate sauce at our waiter's suggestion only to be told by a completely new waitress that they were out of the sauce and would berry compote be ok? The cheese cake was ok. The crust was fantastic because I love it when it's not some gross graham cracker/nut catastrophe. I prefer a shortbread or spongecake crust just like I had in New York City. I'm spoiled for that too, now. lol I didn't taste the other two desserts ordered but they looked wonderful. One of my friends finished my cheesecake for me and thought it was good too. The coffee was good too, even if there were a few grounds in the bottom of the cup. Fortunately I looked before taking the last sip. I would love to go back, order the Chicken Saltimbocca and Chocolate Bar dessert.

This place is quickly becoming my new fav in KC! Food is inventive - even items that seem to be over done taste new here i.e. Wood-Fired Chicken and Artichoke Dip. Big hits on recent visits - fish & chips, lobster mac & cheese, and the steak wedge salad. Our servers have been top notch. This last visit we were having order envy over the soup and our server witnessed this from across the room and quickly brought a round of spoons! I'm definitely looking forward to warmer weather so we can dine on the patio!

This review is referencing our experience planning our Rehearsal Dinner at Trezo. The service and experience for that type of event was top notch! We loved everything about it: the food, the service, the experience, the execution. Let me break it out: Sales Meeting: We worked with all the managers at one point or another during this process and they were all incredibly knowledeable and professional. We were forwarded the menu options ahead of time and then asked to come in for a tasting. We tried one salad, three apps, 4 entrees, and one dessert...all full sized. We left stuffed and happy. Everything was awesome and we were sold on the food 100%. Pricing: Moderate. You get a lot for your money. We chose the 4 course option and I believe it came out at $40/head. For that price, you get two apps served family style, 1 salad (plated), 4 choices of entrees (plated), and two dessert choices (plated). You also get the use of the private room (which is beautiful, with a glassed in wall of wine and private access to their awesome patio; there is also a fireplace which they will turn on for amience if you choose), service for the evening, a personalized menu (ours had a picture of us on the front) and linens of your choosing. They also dressed up the tables with little crystals which was very nice! Service: Can't get much better. All the wait staff were pleasant, energetic, and eager to please. We were happy with every aspect of service from start to finish. Execution: Flawless. There was never a point throughout the planning period or dinner that I had to worry about ANYTHING. They made it so easy and so stress-free. In short, if I ever need to host a private party like this, Trezo will be the first place I turn. We loved them!

Finally... an Italian restaurant that knows how to cook a steak!! If you eat your steak extra well done, just stop reading now. Most places I go that do not have "steak" in their title simply do NOT know how to cook a steak rare or medium rare. Instead, they opt for medium well or well in an effort to avoid people complaining about an accurately cooked piece of meat. Not Trezo - great steak. I also had the Lobster mac and cheese... and I just have to say, this combination has to be one of the better ideas someone has ever had. The dish was baked, with bread crumbs on top to give it some texture. Numerous cheeses were included, and there was a fair bit of spice in the cheesiness. I absolutely loved it. It was a creative dish that I will be back for. Other than that, we had great service, delicious apps and fresh salads. Our best friends chose this place as their rehearsal dinner destination, and the service was great. Overall, I really enjoyed Trezo Mare. I think it has a shot to be one of my favorite Italian restaurants in the area, but I still think there are some places (Garozzos and Cascone's) that set the bar a tiny bit higher. Trezo Mare might get there soon, though. Stay tuned.

Besides their seriously huge fantastic patio service here is always slow and oblivious. Their food leaves much to be desired and I feel like the it's a long shot for them to really try to sell themselves as a "Fresh Seafood" restaurant. The food is very mediocre, and other than some wine you will wait forever for on the patio and some happy hour snacks I don't know why I come to this place.

Love the outdoor patio during spring/summer and the all night Happy Hour on Monday nights. Also they do a really good job of using local KC products and vendors whenever possible.

I'm not a fan of Briarcliff Village. It just seems cold and generic to me. Luckily Trezo Mare is nothing like that. It's independently owned, which is a rare find in the Northland. Every staff member that I have interacted with is warm, welcoming, and friendly. I've only dined for lunch and have always sat at the bar, and I've never had a negative experience. The restaurant is huge! I would describe the interior as modern Italian. There's a fireplace in the bar area, which gives it a cozy feel. The bar is a wrap around bar with ample seating. There's also a private dining area off the bar area which could hold large parties. Food wise, I have tried a variety of things and have liked almost everything. The petite filet is probably my favorite. It came with mashed potatoes and grilled veggies and the steak was a perfect lunch portion size. I also really enjoy their sausage pizza. It's a personal pizza and I usually end up taking half home. My least favorite thing on the menu was the fettuccine alfredo. The fettuccine did seem to be homemade, but the sauce was just way too heavy for me. The wine list is unique and not generic. I wish I lived closer because I would love to make a trip for dinner.

Came specifically for the mussels and find the presentation has changed from sublime to mediocre, salty mess...why must they always mess with success? Paired with mediocre "new" drinks and mediocre service.

I took a friend from out of town for Restaurant Week. Our server was great and the wine selection was good. The food was good, but not great. The best thing we had was the butternut squash soup. Otherwise, the calamari was just okay. The pasta dish my friend ordered was good, but again, not outstanding. Our apple cobbler desserts were also good. Overall, I would say that it was an enjoyable dining experience, but there are too many really good restaurants in KC to settle for 'just ok.'

This is such am amazing place to eat in Kansas City! Such an awesome atmosphere! I thought I was in a coast city. The food was even better! I will come back and eat here again. Ribeye was cooked to perfection! Great wine selection!

Meh, I've experienced better, whole place feels stuffy, nobody is really friendly. Lady at the door who is 15 and dressed like a lady of the night has less personality than a rag doll, she does not care nor does she talk. Food is average, nothing new, nothing special, except for the calamari. If you order off of the happy hour menu you are treated as a lesser customer. Won't go back, would rather spend the money at a grocery store and cook better food at home.

This was my first experience at Trezo Mare. I went for Happy Hour. They have a seperate menu for happy hour - which is only in the bar or the patio. It had just finished raining when I got there, so they weren't sitting anyone on the patio. Which was fine, because it was really steamy outside. I want to go back when the weather is a little cooler because the view from the patio was great! They have some signature cocktails, martinis, wine by the glass and boulevard beers on special for their happy hour. The steamed edemame was plentiful! A huge portion. Enough for 3-4 people. Steamed and litely salted with sea salt - YUM-O! We also shared the fish tacos and chicken artichoke dip. The fish tacos were really tasty. We requested corn tortillas - which they accommodated. A pan seared tiliapia filet with slaw and aioli, and accompained by a side of their signature chile'. The chile was spicy and gooooood! The chicken artichoke dip came with alot of tortilla chips (lightly salted and crispy) The dip itself had chunks of chicken and artichokes. It was really creamy and really good. Definately a must have when coming to Trezo Mare. Steve was our waiter and was very accommodating! Would definately ask to be seated in his area again. Next time, I want to try the Italian Nachos and some pizza for sure.

One of my favorite restaurants in KC. My husband and I try to come here often, especially because their menu changes with the seasons. The crab bisque is incredible, and it's worth it to go on Mondays or Tuesdays for their bottled wine specials. Servers are friendly and knowledgeable, and the food is fantastic and EXTREMELY well-priced.

Briarcliff Village isn't as highfalutin as you might think. Sure, there's often a Porsche paired with a couple of Audi's in the lot and Latteland probably has the most expensive cup of Joe in town, but it's still approachable. Even the wealthy need a break now and then so the time to do so is on Monday's and Friday's where their typical 3-6 happy hour gets extended all night. For $9.50 you can have a decent Kobe burger and fries, or $5.50 for some fine calamari. But here's the real treat: For $3 you can pick up a Boulevard Tank 7! We're talking about a premium beer with an ABV of 8% for $3!!!! Who would drink Bud Light, given this deal? Come on! Avoid the crowds and do the Monday. See ya there!

Great location in Briarcliff. Love the bar area with the big fireplace. Food is alway good. Just had a great spinach salad. The pear vinegarette was light and delightful. The tilapia was cooked to perfection and laid over a long grain rice that was very moist. The lemon caper butter sauce was just enough flavor and wasn't heavy to weigh the dish down.

We had a great dinner. Calamari is very unique but it was an awesome appetizer. Main courses were duck breast and crab bucatini. Bucatini was excellent, nice spice and flavorful. Duck was cooked perfectly and had great flavor but I am not sure it was worth $25. Overall an excellent place and can't wait to go back when it's warmer and have drinks overlooking the KC skyline.

Briarcliff Village is a tacky and hilarious hillside hurrah for the B List of John Ferguson's patented "Spectrum of Dollar Psychology." If you are one of the few Americans unfamiliar with John Ferguson's patented "Spectrum of Dollar Psychology," please allow me to elaborate. A List: Old money. Families who have been wealthy for five-plus generations, and won't likely be otherwise any time soon. They have an inherent eccentricity that is the result of years of boredom. They also have deep-rooted calm. For them, there truly is nothing to worry about. B List: New money. Succesful contractors and designers, etc... Who've accumulated enough wealth to pull themselves out of boring suburban subdivisions, and into newer suburban subdivisions. They don't carry the calm or elegance of the A List, and are usually bad tippers. They get loud and ridiculous after three drinks, and since they view themselves as "self made," the world never "gave them nothin'," and they are happy to tell you about it. C List: No money. Artists and musician types. They can't pay their own way, usually, but are vital. They tell the A List how to spend their money because they have their finger on the pulse of all that is "cool." These people are the enemy of the B List, because they remind the B List people of how they used to be. That and the "self made" don't need ANYONE to tell them how to spend their hard-earned dollar. I'm not saying that any of this is wrong. It's just how it is. As a pretty permanent member of what has to be the V List, or something, I have a pretty good view from afar. Trezo Mare manages to plant its feet firmly into B List territory, and is more than happy to do so. The prices aren't high enough to stun someone like me out of the place, but high enough to generate a hope that the food and drinks will be created with some degree of know-how. We ordered a Blvd. Wheat for me, a whiskey old-fashioned for Rachel, a burger and fries, some chicken and artichoke dip, and a half-dozen oysters. All of these items were present on the happy hour menu. We had decided to sit at the bar, as we'd planned a pretty quick in and out. We had to pick up some African Black Soap and acai berry smoothie packs at Green Acres Market (the only reason we happened to be in Briarcliff in the first place.) The drinks arrived pretty quickly, and we enjoyed them as we waited. Both bartenders were pretty friendly, albeit distant. The food arrived quickly. The best thing I can say about the happy hour menu at Trezo Mare, is that it's not going to offend anyone. It's that perfect, "high-end," stuff from Sysco that's designed to tell the B List that it didn't come out of a box from Sysco. I'm not really complaining, mind you. I kind of figured it would go like that. What did manage to offend every sensibility I possess, was the house music. Maybe it fits into some kind of not-at-all-elitist (totally elitist) artistic sterotype, but something about streaming the Sirius Radio station that transforms modern pop classics into fully acoustic guitar muzak, in which the vocal melody is performed by yet another acoustic guitar. My hearing is terrible, and I would have never noticed it if Rachel hadn't brought it up, but after noticing, it completely ruined my dining/drinking experience. All of the sudden, I was exhausted and sad. I mean, I guess it's not the restaurant's fault, except none of the servers approached the manager and stabbed him in the face. Like I said before: It's not all bad. The people were friendly enough. The food was ok. If you find yourself at the Green Acres market, you could stop on over. If you wanted to.

First let me start by saying that I write reviews rarely...and when I do, it is because the establishment deserves all the Bad and or Good from my review. In this case the review would be EXCELLENT! I used the setting for a planned event. Rarely do event planners meet my expectations. In this case the event planner ERIN, was absolutely outstanding from the outset to the last minute on the clock. Interestingly she made herself available late into the evenings, "Pre-Event" , via email and always seem to respond within minutes of an inquiry. I have no idea when she gets any rest whatsoever, given the access that we had to her over this event. She accommodated all requests, along with providing set up assistance that certainly was above and beyond the call of duty...remember as I say this, that RARELY does anyone or for that matter, ANYTHING, meets my expectations! i CANNOT say enough about the "Can Do Attitude of Erin. We have eaten at all the fine establishments around the world, so food at most restaurants is barely tolerable. Once again I was taken back with the quality of the cuisine. I would give it a 10+ and will return often for more. I taste tested all in advance to rule out what did not hit the mark for our planned evening and once again, there was nothing that missed the mark. Lastly, ask for the servers Kristin and Jake. They too, were most accommodating and helped us get the materials together that we had brought to decorate/set the mood, with nary a whimper. MY COMPLIMENTS TO ERIN AND TEAM~! I WILL BE BACK!!!!!

I work in this area so I end up here fairly often because of location. Trezo Mare has had some serious ups and downs over the years with lots of mgt changes. The most recent mgt group is getting things better, but I still find the food and service just okay. They have a very large space where you will rarely have any trouble finding a place to sit as it is never that busy. Again, it's getting better so I'll check in again in the Fall. That being said, their patio is one of the best in the city - and IS the best in the Northland with views of downtown and lots of room for large crowds when the weather is nice. If you haven't already come here when the weather is good and order a drink & appetizer. But for a full dinner or even lunch I don't recommend at this time.

Went to a company function there with a group of about 40 people. We were scattered over about 4 tables. The first impression is the place looks good... a wine locker, nice bathrooms, etc. But the floors were slick! I survived the walk to the table and was seated and had a hard time hearing my colleagues due to music. Then the service... ouch... it was a bit negative about any questions, requests, etc. Like it was a bother to please customers. The chowder I had was OK, but too cold and was a little too salty. The scallop lunch had... get this... TWO scallops, corn, and white beans with a sauce that had some pancetta. Again, tasty... but somehow too salty. And the overall portion size was way too small... like a high-end French bistro or something. Dessert was the icing on a very poor cake, so to speak. Blood Orange Creme Brulee. Yuck! It was terrible... just awful. Several of my colleagues hated it as well. And it was not freshly browned... as the dish was very cold throughout. I would not recommend and I will not be back.

If you're up North, give this place a try! My husband and I were putzing around on a Sunday morning and decided we wanted to grab an early lunch. We hadn't eaten anywhere nearby so we decided to try Trezo Mare since they had a nice patio and it was a beautiful day. The outdoor patio is beautiful with plenty of seating and beautiful fountains etc. We both enjoyed our meals, which included a salad and some type of chicken dish. The mimosas were great and not overly sweet, which I very much appreciate. Our server was so friendly, the food was tasty and we enjoyed basking in the sun with a couple of drinks. It was literally one of my favorite Sunday mornings. To make it even better, due to the patio being so spacious, it didn't feel crowded even though there were a few couples enjoying the patio as well. It was truly enjoyable!

Presentation was great! And they were willing to work with our party organizer to announce the arrival of their child when dessert came out. Lobster macaroni and cheese was wonderful! The cheese sauce was spot on. Pasta was a little undercooked, however. Smore dessert was delicious. The presentation was wonderful and the bitter chocolate with the sweet of the marshmellow really balanced out.

I've struggled to figure out where this restaurant belongs based on multiple experiences for happy hour, brunch, and dinner. My two biggest complaints are that when you walk in the host or hostess is always sitting at the bar drinking water and reading the paper. It's absurd and lazy. There is no greeting. I can't believe a manager hasn't stopped this yet. My other complaint is the price is too high for the quality of food and drinks. The food and drinks are fine but overpriced. The pasta is made in house but nothing to write home about. At brunch the poached eggs are over cooked. The best deals are $7 pizza night and happy hour apps. the drinks are pricey too and you have to be careful you don't accidentally order one that isn't on happy hour. The drinks are tasty and the bartenders are knowledgeable and have good technique. The patio is delightful. The chicken artichoke dip is addicting. The location is great. Will I keep going? Probably, but not ecstatically.

My boyfriend and I came here to celebrate my birthday. We had reservations at 7:30. Checked in, then went to the bar. Our table was ready just minutes later. Much to my surprise, my name was in the menu! They wished me a happy birthday! How sweet! Service was outstanding. Our server answered questions and made suggestions. I went with the Wood Fired Scallops, with lobster mashed potatoes and asparagus. My boyfriend had the salmon, gnocchi and asparagus. Both dishes were amazing! I had the white sangria. It was so delicious, I had to have two! Our server offered to buy dessert, he thought his service was slow that night. We didn't think so at all. We were full, so we politely declined and let him know that we appreciated the gesture. We will definitely be back. I loved the ambiance. I definitely want to check out the patio and happy hour some time soon!

I heard about this place from a customer who comes to my work place. He gave me such a great review about this place that I knew I had to try it. I went by myself on my day off and ordered the Roasted Pork Chop for dinner and the Trezo Chocolate Bars for dessert! The pork chop, potatoes, and asparagus were cooked to perfection! I love a good pork chop, and they delivered! And the most unique dessert they have on their menu was the Trezo Bars. They were light, fluffy, and crunchy. Chocolate with peanuts and caramel drizzle. It was the best desert I've had at a restaurant. I would go again just for the dessert of nothing else! Anyone who dines here definitely must try them!

The Happy Hour and lunch at Trezo are delicious. The salads are fresh and the BLT has a twist that caught me off guard the first time. How often do you see a BL(fried)Tomato on a sandwich!? The fish tacos are a refreshing change also. Great wine selection and anything you order is bound to be good. Sit at the bar area! :) It's a great lunch spot in Briarcliff.

Trezo Mare, for the win! Full confession, I've never been to Briafcliff Village before, so I was excited to come up here and try out a KC Restaurant Week lunch. The space is large and inviting, and has a slightly upscale atmosphere without being stuffy. It's a bit reminiscent of Brio on the Plaza on the inside. I tried the crispy greens that has very fresh tomatoes for January, and this is likely due to their traditional farm-to-table approach. They've been on doing things this way before it was in vogue, so always good to see. Another side note that's cool, they collect a large majority of their food waste for MO Organic to collect and turn into compost. I went big for the main course - a chicken alfredo with a smoked tomato cream sauce. It was evident that the large noodles were handmade, and had a whole wheat quality to them. It was as heavy as it sounds, but delicious. I was too full for more than a few bites of dessert but it was solid - the Trezo Chocolate Bar with peanut butter corn flake crust, mousse, caramel sauce and peanuts. This place surprised me as it really is a solid, local gem just north of the river. I think due to proximity I won't be here often, but I would certainly recommend it as a place to check out if you haven't been here. As I was pulling out of the parking lot, I caught a cool view of the skyline and headed back that way.

Trezo has sure been hit or miss lately. Recently had what was my favorite dish for years (lobster mac and cheese) but both myself and other members of the party thought the recipe had been changed. What was a creamy, succulent cheese sauce tasted (and looked) like yellow nacho sauce you get out of a pump at a baseball game. Not dissing baseball nachos, but a 'mexican' flavored cheese sauce on lobster with brussel sprouts was not delicious. In fact, I couldn't finish the meal at all when I am usually greedily consuming leftovers the next day. Nor do I recall there being bits of red bell pepper and scallions in the sauce either. Maybe the place is having issues in the kitchen, but was super disappointed in the dish this time.

Great little location if you are already in the area. It has a bit of a classy feel to it. They have some classic cocktails and some of their own creations and a great happy hour as mentioned in other posts. They also have a reverse happy hour from 9-close 6 days of the week. Most of the items on happy hour are beer, most notably Tank 7 for $4. Most of the food items for happy hour are appetizers though. Definitely worth a stop especially during happy hour.

Wonderful dinner last night in dinning room. My daughter is vegetarian and I am gluten intolerant. Latest menu allowed us both choices. My daughter had the Fettuccine Alfredo, I had gluten free pasta with shrimp and vodka creme sauce. My wife had the chicken piccata. Everything was excellent. Wonderful selection of $20 wine available Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday night. Gluten free rolls actually tasted good. Flour less Chocolate Torte was decadent. Only criticism would be the clearing of nearby tables. No bus person in sight and waiters working their stations not helping other waiters. Management asked if everything ok with dinner but did nothing to clear the adjacent table.

After a bit of shopping, we dropped into Trezo Mare for lunch. The restaurant has a spacious feel to it, and is furnished in a style where fun meets sophistication. It is the perfect spot for date night or girls night out. I ordered the steak. It was tender, juicy, perfectly cooked and drizzled with a slightly sweet, yet tangy sauce. It was served with mashed potatoes and green beans. Both were perfect. My companions were both very pleased with their entrees as well. We've been to Trezo Mare several times, and the service is always quick and professional. If there is ever a mistake, they are quick to remedy it. Each dish is prepared with a lot of thought, and can cater to palates craving unique flavors or those just wanting some classic comfort food! Trezo Mare has never failed to please.

My quest for fantastic seafood in middle America took me to Trezo Mare and I was happily not disappointed. I found the menu to be well thought out and on par with those found in larger metropolitan areas. The flavors were complex and delicious, and I would give them 4 stars, for sure. But the decor... Oh the decor. It was so suburban and cliché even though the space had such potential. They put these hideous booths throughout the space which totally killed the romantic vibe that was provided by the open kitchen and deep wooden accents found in the restaurant. They put this incredible detail into the ceiling and bar area but I would totally redo the dining room, given the chance. The decor found in the dining room explains the purple haired crowd that was there on a Saturday night. The menu could easily draw a young, hip crowd, but their patronage isn't. Their dining room wasn't even completely full which disappoints, given the thoughtful menu. We ordered the crab cakes which were lovely and well-prepared. The dressing was delish and the accompanying arugula with vinaigrette was perfect. I got the peppered ahi steak which was great, even though the pepper was overpowering at some points during the dish. The mushrooms on the plate were sauteed deliciously, but I feel that the dish may have been better had there been more mushrooms with sauce and less greens. My friend had the steak which was tender and grilled spot-on. We ordered a few wines that our server suggested and some cocktails that were perfect. Verdict: Do not visit without ordering the Trezo Martini. Wow. The food was good, but this was incredible. The service was friendly and great. Our server, Joshua, had a great sense of humor and wasn't afraid to help us out with great menu selections. The decor was lackluster, but everything else made up for it. It could have been a 3-star rating, but the cocktails and the service made it nearly a 5-starer. It lacks pretension and has character, which is always welcome. It's definitely worth checking out when you're in the Kansas City area.

Last Thursday I stopped in with Mrs. GM for a late bite. We were truly disappointed with the service. I swear service is a lost art in most of the metro and found it amusing that we sat for 8 minutes before we were even acknowledged. I say amusing because when multiple employees pass by and are unable to notice anything odd about our table(no food, no drinks); that is why we were there! My perception is that they cut the floor and were down to a few servers covering the entire restaurant. I get it, the dinner rush was over and servers need to fill their need to spend their nights income on alcohol. But I have to extend a C'MON MAN! Once cuts have been made it doesn't give you a free pass to ignore every other person in the restaurant with an attitude of "that's not my table" or I've been cut". When our server came he simply asked if we were ready to order, I guess he assumed we had enough time to make decisions in the 8 minutes leading up to his arrival. The food couldn't save this experience, I ordered the bone in pork chop. When it arrived it was rare at best. Fifteen minutes later the check back came(what ever happened to first bite or 2 minutes?) I explained that the pork was raw and he offered to have the kitchen cook it further. At this point I knew it wasn't coming back right again but I figured why not give the boy a shot. The chop returned in 2 minutes with the sauce on it in the same manner that it left the table, and it was alone on a giant white plate! This was strange for me for a few reasons- 1) The protein was so poorly cooked and close to raw why not start over? 2) The check back from the server took so long that while I was hungry I ate the greens and boiled out gorgonzola raviolis(they were so overcooked that it was an empty shell) But why not re plate the entire dish and try to WOW! the guest at this point? Cleaning must have been more important for the cook 3) How do you get a 2 bone chop from rare to 150 degrees in 2 minutes---My guess is a microwave. Remember the sauce was in the same place as when it left. Unfortunately the chop was still raw. At this point we gave up and asked for the check. The manager did make a visit to adjust the check after the server dropped the full bill. The manager should of brought the food the second time and the server needs to pursue his "real job" I wasn't looking for anything free but I couldn't be expected to pay for something that was incorrectly made TWICE! That fact that he dropped the check leads me to believe that was the servers expectation. We won't be back

This is absolutely the best restaurant that I have eaten at thus far, from the waitstaff to the ombiance to cuisine to the deserts, even the coffee was phenomenal. Trezo Mare is now my new favorite place to dine.

We met several relatives here for my wife's birthday and we all thought we had a great meal. Our appetizers included fried calamari, various breads, and chips with a chicken/artichoke dip. All of these were fresh, hot, and tasty. We all had salads of different types.....I had the spinach salad which had bleu cheese crumbles and a pear juice vinaigrette dressing. This was very good and fresh. Most everyone else had a Caesar salad and they all thought it was good. For the main course I had the Scimeca's Italian Sausage with Rigatoni and marinara sauce. Very good spices and piping hot. My sisters scallops and fried ricotta was wonderful. This restaurants staff was very helpful and friendly. I could really get used to this place !

Trezo Mare is a Monet. Looks great from afar, but up close it's a bit of a mess. Sitting on the edge of the Briarcliff village, Trezo Mare sits like a triumphant king overlooking Kansas City. Upon entering it becomes obvious that it's patrons are extremely proud to be dining there. Looking at peoples' dress would lead you to believe that everyone plans on attending a violin recital immediately following dinner. The classy dining room decor matches the upscale threads. Trezo Mare easily passes the eyeball test with flying colors. It's not until your sat and the menu presented that a keen eye begins to spot the multitude of flaws. First thought after reviewing the menu? Boring. Where's the originality? Where's the innovation? Where's the surprise? None to be found. Appetizers are the chef's opportunity to excite. They're small dishes so people are willing to take risks when ordering them, and so should be the chef when creating them. Yet the most excitement Trezo can muster is a tuna tartare and 4 kinds of pizza. The house specialties? Many can be found under the "classics" section of most chain restaurant's menus. Seven choices in the seafood section? Isn't this a seafood restaurant? Taste is mediocre, execution; spotty at best. The oysters are beautiful. A bit expensive for their size, but this is Kansas after all. They come with excellent house made cocktail and hot sauces. But over half of them will have a significant amount of broken shell bits in them. The gnocchi are clearly homemade, typically a good thing, but they're not made firm enough. Inexplicably, they're served with a flambe around the bowl. The flambe serves no purpose other than to cause the sauce around the gnocchi to boil, resulting in overcooked soft gnocchi; also known as mashed potatoes. The first thing listed under the scallop dinner is pancetta, yet its no where to be found on the plate. The tiramisu is covered with chocolate sauce; sacrilege in my opinion. You know what a dessert covered in chocolate sauce tastes like? Chocolate sauce. All in all, the food in no way stands up to the expectations that the restaurant itself implies. Service is an unpredictable animal. It's possible to get completely different service from server to server and night to night at any restaurant. But again; the prices and look of Trezo Mare would insinuate that service would be consistent and above average at minimum. This is not the case. Having only viewed Trezo Mare from afar, I saw it as a place I had always intended to try. Having looked up close for myself, I see it's just a collection of unsatisfying dots

I have been to Trezo about 6-7 times. Most every time the food has been very good. I only gave it 1 star because the service is terrible. I went there 8/26/11 and ate outside since it was a beautiful night. Had wine and pasta, both very good. Ordered coffee with cream and sugar. Waitress forgot the sugar, said she would be right back. 10 minutes later I get the sugar. I asked if I could get some warm coffee and also look at the dessert menu. She does bring the coffee after about 5 minutes, no menu. About ten minutes later she comes by and asks if we are ready for the check. We paid and left.

You can't go wrong here, for drinks in the cozy bar area, lunch or dinner. The bar hosts great daily specials (drink & food) and it is really one of the most comfy bars in town, warmth exudes from the fireplace and cozy are the plush seats...or maybe I just had too much to drink that night...Don't miss the outdoor patio in the summer/fall months either. The interior designer hired to decorate this place must have been drinking at the bar, because well, it's ugly. If you can get past that you'll love the food.

The absolute worst fish and chips I have ever had...they actually upset my stomach. The fish was cut into strips, and there could not have been more than 2 oz. of fish in the entire dish. In some of the strips I had difficulty finding any fish! The chips were third-rate frozen french fries, and the cole slaw was old. My wife enjoyed her lunch, but there was no excuse for this.

In the North Kansas City area, some of the best restaurants are just to the west of North Kansas City in the trendy, upscale Briarcliff Village shopping center. The two best restaurants in Briarcliff Village are the second Piropos (the first is in Parkville) and Trezo Mare, which emphasizes fresh seafood and sophisticated preparations, often with a northern Italian flair. The owners of this excellent restaurant also have another restaurant, with a somewhat different name and nature, in Leawood. Now that they have done this north of the metropolitan area's core and south of it, perhaps they will take a shot at the center with a third restaurant (I hope).

We really liked the decor and the service was very good. However, the fried clams had too much breading and they, somehow, were "wet." Disappointing. My wife thought her scallops were OK, but not on a par with those at Pot Pie or the Bristol. My fried shrimp weren't awful but I think Red Lobster has better. Doesn't Trezo Mare know how to fry things? My asparagus was typical, -throw on the grille, remove immediately, pour garlic-flavored butter on top. A little too salty also. For me, the best thing was the bread and whipped butter. If you've eaten at a hotel restaurant, you'll recognize this food, -nothing terrible but nothing inspired. I will not be back.

I have been here about 6 times so far. Excellent food. The seafood is really fresh and you can check it all out with the open concept kitchen. The crab bisque it a meal in itself and the tuna tartar has some serious flavor. They did a great job with the bar. This space has a fireplace and cozy nooks to grab a quick bite. They also have a pretty spacious patio for dining in warm weather. Look past the Steve Wynn Casino decor and enjoy the food and service. All and all thumbs up!

I stopped by here for drinks with some friends after eating elsewhere, so I can't say anything about the menu. However, the bar was cozy and warm (we sat right by the fireplace), and the wait staff did a pretty decent job even though it was close to closing time. I'd be willing to stop in for dinner sometime.

Who put this crustacean in my noodles? While covering lobster with several layers of cheese and pasta seems like a waste of tasty meat, my Mac and Cheese with Lobster was delicious. It takes comfort food to whole new level, and the serving is big enough to eat half at the restaurant, and take the other half home for a little late-night comfort carbo-loading snack.

What an adorable place to have a girls day lunch...we were visiting our friends this past weekend so my girlfriend and I took Monday as a girls day out. Went here for lunch and the place is great. We got there early so we had a great little table right in front of the fireplace, which was lit up for us since it was cold outside. Our waiter was extremely nice and attentive, the decor is great and the food wonderful. Definitely a do over on my next visit....

in the past few months, trezo has come under new ownership. it's reflected in a new menu, new staff and new management. honestly, as a guest, you would never really know unless you asked. and i think that's a good thing. the restaurant as a whole likes to feature local products - national beef, sodavie, etc. i wish the whole restaurant had the atmosphere that the bar area has. the bar area is cozy, comfortable and great for people watching. if i wanted a quiet dinner and maybe a view of the open kitchen, i'd sit in the dining room, but that's not what i want when i come here. otherwise, i opt to make reservations in the bar (and the bar area gets crowded, making me think i'm not alone in this opinion). the expanded patio area that occurred late last fall is only for the better, as you can enjoy cocktails and the great view of downtown late into the evening. mondays and thursdays, the happy hour menu in the bar lasts all night. these are great deals. gourmet hamburgers and fries for 6 bucks. oysters for 1.50 (i don't prefer them fried though, way too heavy with that cornmeal breading). and the amazing fish tacos... oh yes, they're on the happy hour menu too. SO GOOD. and how could i forget to mention the chicken artichoke dip? it's better than any dip i've ever had. the gnocchi is an amazing side - comes lit on fire. make sure to ask for the bread, if you don't get any. the crackers that come with it are delicious! all in all, it's a great restaurant. just sit in the bar area. for the people watching, the patio and more importantly, the live music. that happens on wednesdays and weekends (wednesday is more of a quiet live music that allows for conversation).

It's Saturday night and tired of all the local haunts, we decided to find a place where we know we could get a reservation on short notice. Based on reviews and availability, we decided to give Trezo Mare a try and venture out to Briarcliff Village. We were excited about our evening out. The menu had some great selections, but wasn't laid out in a way that made it easy to read. After deciding on our selections, my dining companion and I waited for our meal. Our waitress was nice and friendly, drinks and starters were brought out promptly. Thank goodness we had a lot to catch up on because our meal sure took a while to arrive. We had to ask for a bread basket while we wait as the table next to ours had already had their starter, main and were working on dessert. My companion's main finally arrived and mine shortly after. Everything looked great, except that I ordered my dish well done and it came out almost rare. I informed our waitress about the order and she promptly took it back to the kitchen. While my partner finished his meal, I had to wait another 20 minutes for mine to arrive. My food came back and the person who brought it asked me to check it was cooked to my satisfaction this time. There was no apologies for the long wait though. I started to tuck into it after waiting for so long to eat. Everything tasted pretty good except that my beef had been cooked in the sauce that it was covered in and they had added extra sauce on top of that which made the beef extra salty. I drank lots of water, but the salty taste did not go away. There was no point in sending the food back again. We decided to try one of their desserts in hope of ending our dinner on a better note. Our pumpkin creme brulee was tasty, but cold instead of warm as we had expected. We asked our waitress if the creme brulee was supposed to be cold. She said that is how it comes. Creme brulee, cold? That was a first for me. Overall, the food and service was pretty good. Decor was cozy and the whole experience could have been a lot better. After dropping over a $100 for food and drinks, I expected more than I got. I won't be rushing to come back here anytime soon.

Trezo Mare, the older sister of Overland Park's Trezo Vino, is the restaurant that started it all in the Briar Cliff development in Kansas City, MO. The bright, rich colors of the inside décor makes you want to immediately relax and enjoy good food; that's exactly the experience they offer. The menu is laid out by appetizers, cold and hot; salads, entrees, side dishes and finally desserts. When I last dined there, they also had a fantastic wine list, with wines by the bottle and glass separated by color and how full-bodied they are. The Caesar salad is one of the best I've ever had and the cheese gnocchi served over fire, is one of the most flavor-rich dishes I've had the pleasure of enjoying. In the restaurant itself the bar is separate from the main dining area, and a private dining room, but the bar has a TV's, a big fireplace and ample seating, including booths and access to a patio. The three rooms are separated by a hallway of wine lockers where patrons can purchased lockers to keep their own wine it to enjoy when they come in to dine. They can also purchase upgrades, offering monthly wines and other perks.

Thanks to this restaurant, I have a new rule for myself: if I walk in and see the place setting on the wrong side of the plate, turn around and run away. Here's the whole list of gripes. And they're really simple things, but indicative of a lack of training and a lack of true restaurant experience by ownership/management. 1) Place settings belong on the left. I don't expect a restaurant to do a full-on Emily Post place setting, but the napkin goes on the left. Start there. 2) There was no pepper on the table. There was salt. But why no pepper? Even if you offer freshly ground pepper, you should still put a pepper shaker on the table. 3) For a place that offers wine lockers, they sure don't know how to serve wine. We ordered a bottle of wine. The waitress came, asked if I would like a taste. When I said yes, she poured a splash in my glass and while I was swirling it around to breathe, she poured a splash in my date's glass, put the bottle down, and walked away. Don't worry...I still would've sent it back if it were bad. 4) Having "sea" in the name and pictures of seafood on their website means nothing. They sure don't offer a lot of seafood. Their MySpace page (ignore the fact that it's a 29 year old male...ha!) expresses "our desire to become Kansas City's finest seafood restaurant". They have a long, long way to go. 5) As far as the food goes, I wasn't very impressed. It was all billed to be fancy, but it really wasn't. I ordered the ahi tuna with the "artichoke tapenade, olive caramel & Yukon chips." I'm 95% sure the sauce was out-of-a-jar plum sauce (Lee Kum Kee brand if I'm not mistaken). And there were no Yukon chips. I would've appreciated a heads up about the substitution. The food is, at best, a step above Olive Garden. Is Trezo Mare on my list of restaurants to NEVER return to? Is the Pope Catholic? Does a pair of cheap pantyhose get a run on an itchy porcupine?

Had an excellent family dinner at Trezo - great service and 7 different entrees ordered with everyone pleased! WOOHOO! Filet was cooked perfectly, seafood stew got rave reviews...Italian sausage rigatoni was delicious. For us, their calamari takes first place above Capital Grille now. Love that it's locally owned and makes everything fresh - great place to take guests!

I started coming here because I worked in the area. I keep coming back because I am practically addicted to the chicken artichoke dip! I'm honestly not really sure what aged beef is, other than delicious! I don't eat beef at restaurants much, so this is the only place I've ordered an aged steak, but I am glad that I did. I didn't even need a knife to cut it, it was so tender. I am not much of a wine drinker, but everyone I go with seems to really enjoy themselves. When I graduated, my family came in from out of town and we ate here to celebrate. Some friends and I have also held a mini bridal shower here, both events with at least 10 people. The experience with large groups was great both times.

This is excellent restaurant very good grilled meats. The pork chops are huge and are wonderful. Definitely try these. Steak is also good as well as the lobster Mac and cheese. Located in upscale Briarcrest area but only a short drive from downtown KC.

I'm awarding an extra star because it's close to my house and I believe it's locally owned, two important factors for me. I have been for dinner a few times and been pretty happy overall although I do think it is expensive. But I think they have adjusted their menu and price points since I've had dinner there, so that might be improved on my next visit. I was there on a Friday for happy hour with some friends and was inspired to write a quick review - we had a blast, great happy hour menu and good service. We had calamari, artichoke dip, sliders, and several other apps and all were tasty and reasonably priced. I understand that they do their happy hour menu all night on Mondays and Thursday, which intrigues me, so I'll probably be making another weeknight visit in the near future.

Good wine and great bruschetta appetizer. Service was friendly, but not as attentive as I would expect it to be for the price. Décor is nice. Calamari appetizer, I think it would have been ok if it was not over salted, and there was no dipping sauce! Why no sauce? Pasta main course was inedible. Seriously. Penne pasta with butter sauce and 2-3 slices of zucchini diced up, and this dish was under salted. The waiter said the pasta was fresh made, but it was definitely store bought.

The two times I've been here could best be represented by saying Night and Day. The first, my husband and I met up for a few drinks and appetizers. We sat at the end of the bar on cool fall evening and ordered a few beers and fish tacos. As far as the tacos go, they are very fresh and such a pleasant surprise. Enjoying the atmosphere, my husband ordered another beer. Suddenly, we were abandoned. The three other people in the bar all shared looks with us, as in, can we just go get a drink by ourselves? Twenty minutes later, without saying a word, a waitress slammed a beer down in front of my husband and walked away. We left our cash on the bar and left. The second time, we took my in laws and some random family members. We were treated to some of the best service we've ever experienced. The waitress described the food with so much passion we wouldn't have been surprised if she'd introduced herself as Mother Earth. Our party ranged in ages from 9 to 65 and she made every single person feel special. No request went unnoticed and she delivered above and beyond any normal wait staff. Our recommendations; On a cold winter day get the Bisque, it's so comforting and velvety! The happy hour and lunch are extremely reasonable and is a great place to take a date. Finally, do not pass up the dessert. The Trezo Chocolate Bars can satisfy only the cravings found in dreams.

Nice decor, pleasant staff. So far, so good. Artichoke dip seemed to fine except for the lack of flavor. Steak ordered well arrived medium rare. Sides were weak to be kind. "Special" Opakapaka was indeed fresh, but presentation was a train wreck. If they had served it as a stew it may have had a chance. The dish disintegrated on contact. Creamy sauce, undercooked spaghetti squash, unidentifiable chunks of meat(?), can you guess what i thought it looked like in that white porcelain bowl sitting in front of me? Maybe they can make pasta, but asking them to grill us some meat and deliver it at the same time with some fresh vegetables seemed to be a bit more than they could handle.

My wife and I celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary here last night. It was our first time here. We had a fantastic time! Our server, Lee (or Leigh) was extremely helpful, pleasant and knowledgeable about the entire menu. Prices were reasonable, food was delicious. Only reason why I'm not giving it a 5 star rating is because the host(ess) that greeted us at the door seemed like we were bothering her and more or less pushed us into the lounge when we wanted to sit in the regular area. She wasn't mean, but not all that welcoming. Our server was great, however and that first impression from the hostess quickly wore off. Our server was busy, and we did have to ask for the fresh pepper more than twice, but given that she had the entire bar area - that was understandable. I'd visit again!

I liked the atmosphere including the high ceiling. The staff was professional and pleasant. My date was very pleased with her chicken parmesan. I should have gone with the daily special which was a grouper dish that sounded very nice. However, I had been told by a friend about an entree called "lobster mac n cheese". They said it was great stuff but they had experienced it at the CG on the plaza. It turned out to be ok and was a large enough portion that I had to take some with me but Im sure I would have preferred the grouper or almost any other seafood dish. I would have to say that may favorite part of the lunch was the bread which featured a sun-dried tomato spread. Since it is so near downtown and my home, I am sure I will return.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
